Current status of electric vehicle sales
The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) recently reported a significant increase in car sales, with a total of 44,200 vehicles sold in November 2024, up 14% month-on-month. The increase was mainly attributed to a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled cars, which sparked consumer interest. Of the sales, passenger cars accounted for 34,835 units, up 15% month-on-month.
The data showed that domestic car sales were 25,114 units, up 19%, while pure imported car sales increased to 19,086 units, up 8%. In the first 11 months of this year, VAMA member car sales were 308,544 units, up 17% year-on-year. It is worth noting that pure imported car sales soared 40%, indicating a strong recovery in Vietnam's automotive market. Experts said that this growth is a clear sign of growing consumer demand, especially as the end of the year approaches, which is a good sign for the future of the industry.
The Importance of Charging Infrastructure
As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, the need for comprehensive charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. According to a World Bank report, Vietnam will need about US$2.2 billion to build a network of public charging stations by 2030, and this figure is expected to rise to US$13.9 billion by 2040. The development of charging infrastructure is critical to supporting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, promoting green travel, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The benefits of building a strong charging infrastructure are manifold. Not only does it contribute to the popularization of electric vehicles, it can also protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the construction and maintenance of charging facilities can stimulate economic development by creating jobs and promoting related industries such as battery manufacturing and charging equipment production. Providing more convenience for electric vehicle users, improving energy security, and promoting technological innovation are other benefits that highlight the importance of investing in charging infrastructure.
New Energy Vehicles: A Sustainable Future
New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) are a major advancement in sustainable transportation solutions. These vehicles, including electric vehicles, produce no emissions while in motion, helping to reduce air pollution and improve public health. By harnessing clean energy sources such as electricity, solar energy and hydrogen, NEVs help reduce harmful emissions such as carbon dioxide, playing a vital role in combating global warming.
In addition to environmental benefits, NEVs often come with favorable government subsidy policies, making them more acceptable to consumers. Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, NEVs have lower operating costs for charging, which further enhances their appeal. In addition, the maintenance-free nature of electric vehicles eliminates many traditional maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and spark plug replacements, resulting in a more convenient ownership experience.
New energy vehicles integrate advanced intelligent systems to enhance the driving experience and provide the safety and convenience that consumers increasingly demand. In addition, the low noise level of electric motors helps create a more comfortable driving environment, especially in urban environments. As major cities around the world face traffic congestion and pollution problems, the energy-saving advantages of new energy vehicles are more obvious.
In conclusion, the rise of new energy vehicles and the development of supporting charging infrastructure are critical to shaping a sustainable future for transportation. As electric vehicle sales surge in countries such as Vietnam, the global community must recognize the importance of investing in technology and infrastructure to facilitate the transition to greener transportation solutions. By embracing new energy vehicles, we can work together to build a greener world, reduce our carbon footprint, and create a healthier environment for future generations.
