Ford Halts Delivery of F150 Lights

Ford said on February 23 that it had stopped delivery of all 2024 F-150 Lighting models and conducted quality checks for an unspecified issue.Ford said it had stopped deliveries from Feb. 9, but it did not say when it would resume, and a spokesman declined to provide information about the quality issues being inspected.Ford said last month it would reduce production of the F-150 Lightning due to lower demand for electric vehicles.

Ford said on February 23 that production of the F-150 Lighting continues. In January, the company said it would cut production at its electric vehicle center in Rouge, Michigan, to one shift starting April 1. In October, Ford temporarily cut one of three shifts at its electric vehicle plant.Ford told suppliers in December that it planned to start producing about 1,600 F-150 Lighting electric pickups a week starting in January, about half the 3,200 it had previously planned.In 2023, Ford sold 24,165 F-150 Lightning vehicles in America, up 55% from the same period last year. The F-150 sold about 750 thousand units in the United States last year.Ford also said it began delivering the first batch of its 2024 F-150 gas pickups to retailers last week. The company said: “We expect to ramp up deliveries in the coming weeks as we thoroughly complete pre-market quality construction to ensure these new F-150s meet our standards.”It has been reported that hundreds of 2024 gasoline- powered F-150 pickups have been sitting in Ford’s warehouse in southern Michigan since production began in December.
