BYD's first new energy pickup truck debuts in Mexico

BYD launched its first new energy pickup truck in Mexico, a country adjacent to the United States, the world's largest pickup truck market.

BYD unveiled its Shark plug-in hybrid pickup truck at an event in Mexico City on Tuesday. The car will be available for global markets, with a starting price of 899,980 Mexican pesos (approximately US$53,400).

While BYD's vehicles are not sold in the United States, the automaker is making inroads into Asian markets including Australia and Latin America, where pickup trucks are popular. Truck sales in these regions are dominated by models such as Toyota Motor Corp's Hilux and Ford Motor Co's Ranger, which are also available in hybrid versions in some markets.
