BYD launches Sealion 7 in India: a step towards electric vehicles

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has made a significant inroad in the Indian market with the launch of its latest pure electric vehicle, the Hiace 7 (export version of the Hiace 07). The move is part of BYD’s wider strategy to expand its market share in India’s booming electric vehicle segment. The company announced that it has started accepting bookings for the Hiace 7 at the India Auto Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi, with pricing details to be announced on February 17. Shrirang Joshi, national sales head, electric passenger vehicles, BYD India, confirmed that deliveries of the Hiace 7 are expected to start in March 2025.

a step towards electric vehicles

The Sealion 7 is available in two different versions: Premium and Performance, both equipped with an impressive 82.56 kWh battery pack. The Performance version accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and has an impressive range of 542 km according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standard. Meanwhile, the Premium version has a slightly slower acceleration time of 6.7 seconds but has a range of 567 km under the same test conditions. This combination of performance and efficiency makes the Sealion 7 a competitive choice in the Indian electric vehicle market.

BYD’s Commitment to Innovation and Quality

BYD’s commitment to innovation was further demonstrated with the launch of SEALION 6, BYD’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in India, powered by BYD’s proprietary DM-i technology. Since its inception in India in 2007, BYD has grown to over 3,000 employees and launched three key products: eMAX 7, SEAL and ATTO 3. Rajeev Chauhan, head of BYD’s electric passenger vehicle business in India, said the company plans to expand its dealer network to 40 locations by the end of this month.

In a competitive environment that includes major players such as Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Tata Motors and SAIC Motor’s joint venture, BYD is well-positioned to make a significant impact. The Indian government will implement stricter carbon emission norms from 2027, prompting automakers to enhance their electric vehicle offerings. BYD’s early investment in new energy vehicle technology has resulted in a mature, stable and reliable product lineup, which is critical as the industry shifts to greener alternatives.

BYD’s products are known for their high cost-performance ratio. Compared with many traditional fuel vehicle brands, their prices are more competitive, while their performance and functions are excellent. The company focuses on independent innovation and continuously improves product quality, which has attracted attention both at home and abroad. It is worth noting that BYD’s self-developed blade battery is known for its high safety standards and long life, providing a solid foundation for its new energy vehicles.

Global recognition and the call for a green future

The international community is increasingly recognizing the importance of China’s new energy vehicles, and BYD is a leader in this transformation. As countries around the world work to address the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, the transition to electric vehicles is more important than ever. BYD’s progress in automotive intelligence and networking has laid a solid foundation for the development of future autonomous driving and smart travel, further enhancing the appeal of electric vehicles.

As the global community moves toward a more sustainable future, countries must actively participate in building a green, new energy world. The transition to electric vehicles is more than just a technological shift; it represents a fundamental change in the way society approaches transportation and energy consumption. By adopting electric vehicles, countries can reduce their carbon footprint, improve air quality, and promote economic growth by developing new industries and jobs.

In conclusion, BYD’s launch of the Sealion 7 in India marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey to become a leader in the electric vehicle market. With a strong focus on innovation, quality and sustainability, BYD is well positioned to meet the demands of the changing automotive landscape. As the world works together towards a greener future, the role of electric vehicles will be vital and BYD will play a key role in this transformation.
